ERNIE ELS widened his lead at the Buick Classic in Harrison, New York to five strokes with a five under par 66 yesterday. His 11 under par total ties the tournament record for 36 holes set by David Graham in 1976.

Fellow South African David Frost, who shot a 69 at Westchester Country Club yesterday, was in second place along with Craig Parry, who shot a 66. Greg Norman was a stroke further back, after a second round 70.

Els had six birdies and a single bogey in his round, the bogey came after he failed to get up and down from a bunker.

"Every time I come here I enjoy playing," Els said. "The holes set up very nicely for me. I'm confident, and when you're confident you relax and just feel sure of yourself on the golf course.
