David Duval became the first two-time winner on the USPGA Tour this year, erasing a six-stroke deficit with a final-round 64 yesterday for a one-shot win in the Houston Open.
Duval, who finished one stroke in front of third-round co-leader Jeff Maggert, overtook 12 golfers who began the day with the same score or better as he matched the best round of the tournament.
Duval, 26, won $60,000 and overtook the idle Justin Leonard atop the money list with $1,240,805 in just 10 events. It was his fifth career victory, all since last October, when he began a run that closed the PGA season by winning the last three events.
Neither of Ireland's two competitors, Keith Nolan and Richard Coughlan, managed to make the desired move over the final two rounds. Bray's Nolan closed off with a final round 71 for a one over par total of 289, one shot ahead of Birr's Coughlan who finished with a 72 for two over par 290.
