CAMOGIE:A ONE-POINT Dublin win opened the 2008 senior camogie championship at Skerries Harps on Sunday as the hosts recorded a 4-6 to 2-11 Leinster semi-final victory over Wexford.
The visitors led by 2-9 to 1-4 at the three-quarter stage, but Dublin remained resilient and held the All-Ireland champions to just two points in the closing minutes as a hat-trick of goals paved the way to a home win.
Sarah Ryan was the hat-trick heroine for the eventual winners and her final goal in the second minute of injury-time ensured victory.
Wexford duo Ursula Jacob and Una Leacy scored 1-7 of the visitors tally in a game where the Wexford forwards looked impressive throughout.
A Lenny Holohan goal gave them a 1-5 to 1-2 advantage after Dublin had raced into an early 1-2 to 0-2 lead thanks to a Ryan goal.
The switching of Ciara Lucey to half back and the superb play of substitute Niamh Taylor and Fiona Ní Chorcoráin in the closing stages ensured the hosts took a hard-earned win.
Dublin now face Kilkenny in the decider, but will first face Cork in the league next weekend.
There were two games down for decision in Division Two of the National Camogie League with a Tipperary second-string side recording a 1-16 to 3-7 victory over Galway at Lorrha.
The hosts were strongest in the opening half as they shaded a 1-6 to 1-4 interval lead, with full forward Ailish Langton taking Tipperary's goal, while Stephanie O'Dwyer struck a goal for Galway in the 12th minute.
Despite Galway scoring two more goals from Martina Conroy and substitute Stacey Coen inside the opening 12 minutes of the second half, Tipperary continued to remain strong with midfielder Caitriona O'Meara scoring nine points.
Also in Division Two, Cork shaded Waterford in a six-goal thriller at Cappaquin, finishing 3-12 to 3-5 winners.
