Dubai to get new Classics

Dubai will have three new Classic races next season

Dubai will have three new Classic races next season. The United Arab Emirates 2,000 Guineas over a mile on March 1st, the UAE 1,000 Guineas over a mile on March 15th, and the UAE Oaks over nine furlongs on April 14th will be introduced.

They will be run on dirt at Nad Al Sheba. and join the UAE Derby which will be worth $2 million next year and be run on March 24th.

Emirates Racing Association chief executive Les Benton said: "All major racing centres around the world have their own Classics and with the Emirates being recognised as a leader in world racing, we thought it time that the United Arab Emirates had its own set of classics.

"We are hosting the world's richest Derby in 2000/1 and we felt that that event should be complemented by some class lead-up races.

"There are now valuable options for all types of horses and, with this Pattern calendar perfectly balanced within the regular racing season, leads us to believe that the 2000/1 will be the best season to date in the Emirates."

The UAE 2,000 Guineas was run this year as the Khor Dubai and won by Bachir, subsequent winner of the French and Irish 2,000 Guineas.

Meanwhile, Inforapenny, who ran the race of her life to finish third to Petrushka in Sunday's Kildangan Irish Oaks, may now go to the continent.

Trainer Richard Fahey has several options for the sister to Mons, and said: "She has come out of the race in Ireland very well and we have put her in a Group Three race over one mile five furlongs at Deauville (Prix de Pomone) at the end of the month.

"The Shergar Cup Oaks at Ascot next month is also a possibility so we will have to see."
