DROGHEDA kept alive their chances of survival by beating Dundalk in the game postponed from Friday night at United Park last night.
Drogheda dominated the first half and might have had several goals before they went in front alter 30 minutes. The all important score headed into the Dundalk net by Barry O'Connor after a corner kick taken by Trevor Crolly.
Dundalk picked up the tempo in the second half with some good runs down the wings by Joe Hanrahan on one side and Brian Byrne on the other but Drogheda, defending in depth, looked like holding out until in the 66th minute Joe Gallen turned in Keith Long's shot from outside the area to equalise.
Drogheda were lucky to go back into the lead again inside two minutes when Crolly, Drogheda's best player on the night, took advantage of a through ball from Colm Tresson to beat John Connolly in the Dundalk goal.
Shortly afterwards John Ryan should have made it safe for Drogheda but headed wide of an open goal on a cross from Tom Sullivan.
Drogheda had to survive another scare before the final whistle when Hanrahan shot just wide in the 83rd minute.
