Galway United strolled to only their second win of the current campaign when they put a record eight goals past Monaghan United at Terryland Park last night.

Galway received an early boost when Billy Clery headed home a Bobbie Ryan corner. Their second arrived on 13 minutes when Clery struck a long-range free kick which was spilled by Monaghan goalkeeper Robert Forde who appeared to be impeded.

The ball landed in the path of the inrushing Mark Herrick who chipped into the net from just inside the area. Forde was then red-carded on 26 minutes for a foul on Ryan but nothing came from the free kick.

Mannion's charges kept the pressure up and made it three on 39 minutes when Derek O'Brien drilled home from the edge of the area past new goalkeeper Fred Davis junior.
