MALTA'S Tony Drago beat Steve Davis for the first time in his career to win the £11,000 top prize at the Guangzhou Masters in China yesterday.
Davis, chasing his first title of the season, had won all nine of the duo's previous encounters and led 2-1 in this latest clash before Drago claimed five successive frames to clinch the final 6-2.
It was only Drago's second tournament win since he joined the professional ranks in 1985. He also beat Peter Ebdon, who is provisionally number three in the world rankings.
"The crowd gave us an incredible reception and we have had fantastic support all week," said Drago.
