Derry are now the only county in a position to win both provincial titles in hurling and football. Their footballers play Armagh next Sunday in the provincial final at Clones.

If they win, they will be the first Ulster county to achieve the feat since the province's hurling championship was revived 10 years ago.

Antrim have completed the double on six occasions, most recently in 1946 but the first two, in 1900 and 1901, came about after an uncontested hurling championship. Down were fairly unlucky in the 1990s, winning two Ulster titles in each code in 1991 (f), 1992 (h), 1994 (f) and 1995 (h) without hurling and football coinciding in any one year.

Cork and Galway have been the most regular winners of dual provincial titles but with the lapse of the Connacht championship, Galway will be unable to complete the double for the foreseeable future.
