Dominant St Pat's get their reward

AIRTRICITY LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION St Patrick's Athletic 2 UCD 0:GOALS IN either half from Christy Fagan and Greg Bolger secured the points for St Patrick’s Athletic against UCD at Richmond Park last night. They dominated from the start but initially found it hard to capitalise on the good play and possession they enjoyed.

Conor Kenna saw his excellent header from James Chambers’ corner cleared off the line by Ciarán Nangle on 16 minutes. Then on 20 minutes Bolger connected with John Russell’s pass but headed over the bar when well -placed in front of goal.

St Patrick’s finally broke the deadlock on the half-hour mark when Fagan ran onto Chambers’ pass and fired low past goalkeeper Mark McGinley from the left.

Fagan could have doubled the lead less than a minute later when he got his head to Jake Kelly’s cross but sent his header over the bar.

As the first half wound down, Bolger tried his luck with an audacious chip over the advancing McGinley on 44 minutes but saw his effort flash wide.

Fagan had another opportunity to net his second on the night on 59 minutes. He timed his run perfectly to get on the end of Chris Forrester’s pass but crashed a fierce shot high and wide.

Pat’s continued to pile on the pressure and McGinley did well on 61 minutes to block Russell’s close range shot. The goalkeeper made further saves from Bolger on 74 minutes and Fagan on 76 minutes.

Bolger hit the post on 78 minutes with Dean Kelly’s follow up cleared before Forrester put Bolger through to slot in St Patrick’s second goal from inside the box on 80 minutes.
