DERRY CITY director and club secretary Kevin Friel has rubbished weekend reports suggesting that a riot situation developed at the Brandywell during his club's comprehensive victory over north west neighbours Finn Harps on Saturday night.
A Finn Harps supporter was take from the terraces midway through the second half following minor skirmishes between rival fans.
"The supporter who was stretchered away had taken an epileptic fit and our club doctor dealt with the situation immediately" said Mr Friel. "He has since been released from hospital."
Derry, meanwhile, continues to hold sway over their close rivals. Saturday's victory means that Harps have failed to defeat the Brandywell side in 27 confrontations.
Home skipper Peter Hutton continued his impressive strike rate when he broke the deadlock in the 21st minute A superb cross by Liam Coyle saw Hutton send a looping header into the Harps net.
Harps, had three clear chances to score in the first half but Trevor Scanlon, a recent English recruit from Peterborough, Michael Hallsall and Davy Dowling all failed to find the target.
A determined Derry controlled the second half and after Sean Hargan gave the home side a 2-0 cushion in the 54th minute with a thunderous drive from the edge of the penalty area, Harps were in serious difficulty. Central defender Gavin Dykes ended the game as a contest in the 57th minute when he accepted Hargan's flick on to steer the ball beyond the reach of keeper David Platt from 12 yards.
