THE TRAGIC death of Paul McGirr overshadowed the minor football championship game between Tyrone and Armagh at Omagh yesterday.

He received the injury which led to his death in an accidental collision when scoring the only goal of the game.

After conceding the goal Armagh replied in storming fashion with scores from Stephen McDonnell and Paddy McKeever to level the game before the break, going in at 1-3 to 0-6.

The game developed into a free-kick battle between Stephen Donnelly and Armagh's Stephen, McDonnell, but it was some superb long-range points from Tyrone mid-fielder Kevin Hughes that kept them in control.
