New Zealander Michael Campbell won the Australian Masters by four strokes yesterday to notch up his fourth tournament victory of the season.

Campbell, the overnight leader by four shots, maintained the advantage despite a poor start and became the first player since Greg Norman in 1988 to win four Australasian Tour events in a season.

"The last three months have been incredible," a jubilant Campbell said after a final round of even-par 73 for a 10-under total of 282.

Campbell, who said he was troubled by tendinitis in his wrist in the early rounds, overcame early jitters that saw his margin cut to two shots and won comfortably in the end.

Australian Brett Rumford, second overnight, was unable to make up any ground and also carded a 73 for a six-under total of 286. Spaniard Sergio Garcia was third, two shots further back, after also having a 73.

Campbell's win follows his earlier successes in the Johnnie Walker Classic in November and back-to-back successes in the New Zealand Open and Heineken Classic last month.
