AIRTRICITY LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION: Sligo Rovers 3 Shamrock Rovers 0:STEPHEN KENNY was furious after nine-man Shamrock Rovers were toppled by rampant Sligo at the Showgrounds on Saturday.
Kenny criticised Chris Turner’s sending off on a straight red card after 50 minutes for a push on Alan Keane. “It was extremely harsh, I couldn’t believe it,” he added.
In the closing minutes Hoops defender Graham Gartland also saw red following a tussle with substitute Raffaele Cretaro, who was making his 400th League of Ireland appearance.
Sligo boss Ian Baraclough said: “Today we did the simple things very, very well and we were clinical in front of goal. . . People will say we were up against only nine men but I think the damage was done against 11 men.”
Sligo went ahead after 30 minutes when their top marksman Danny North rifled the ball past Reyaad Pieterse following a piercing run by Mark Quigley.
David Cawley doubled the Reds’ advantage six minutes later with a magnificent 35-yard piledriver that went in via the crossbar.
And North sealed the victory on 77minutes – firing past the visitors’ goalkeeper after some slack defending by Kenny’s side.
