CATTERICK'S meeting yesterday became the third fixture of the week to fall victim to thick log.
Officials had given the go ahead after a slight improvement in visibility and it had been hoped to start the programme at 1.35p.m.
The horses reached the start for the first race but 10 minutes after the rescheduled start time the stewards called the meeting off after the fog thickened again.
Sedgefield last Monday was abandoned owing to fog after one race, while Lingfield succumbed the following day before the meeting began.
Stewards' secretary Patrick Hibbert Foy said: "This is all very frustrating - I've never known such a long spell.
"The stewards felt the horses should go down to the start for the first race but then the fog came down again. On the advice of the starter the stewards then decided to abandon."
All the jockeys appeared to agree with the decision. Martin Brennan said. It just seemed to come and go in swirls at the start and I'm sure they've done the right thing."
