Carlow hope to crown their centenary year celebrations by winning the Barton Cup final against Dundalk later this month. They qualified for the decider with a nailbiting 3-2 win over Castle. Both teams had taken a point at each venue as the decisive match at Castle reached a conclusion. Carlow pair Derek Kilbride and Derek Conry were two up with three to play, lost the 16th and 17th, but regained their composure to win on the final green.
The other semi-final was even closer with Dundalk requiring one win away and two tie-hole victories at home to edge out Borris. The clinching point was secured by Charlie Monaghan and schoolboy Peter Tuite. They lost the 18th but won at the first extra hole when Monaghan chipped to two feet and Tuite holed. Alan Cole and Neil McGuinness had earlier won at t he 20th.
