CAMP BANK can take the Aspley Conditional Jockeys Novices' Handicap Hurdle at Nottingham today to kick start a successful spring for his stable. Nigel Twiston-Davies's runners have been going quite well in recent weeks, but with just 48 winners to date, by his own prolific standards, the trainer will be quite disappointed with the season to date.
Camp Bank cannot number himself among those who have contributed to that tally, but has shown enough ability to suggest he can take this. Last time, the six-year-old was in with every chance until hampered three out in the race won by Take The Buckskin.
Prior to that, the gelding was equally unlucky when carried wide on the bend approaching two out when beaten around 12 lengths fourth to Foxbow. He has been assessed on a mark of 91 for this, his first attempt at a handicap, and does not look harshly treated.
Although Uncle Keeny and Old Habits will have their supporters, they look to have been anchored by less favourable handicapping and, in any case, may need the run after a slight break.
King Lucifer, one of many novice chasing aces David Nicholson currently has stuffed up his sleeve, can take the Whitemoor Novices' Chase.
Adrian Maguire had nothing short of an armchair ride around Nottingham last time when the gelding won a three mile novices' chase by seven lengths from Ocean Leader.
With that experience under his belt, he should progress. Even slight improvement from his last run should be enough to see off these rivals.
