Galway footballers have received a timely boost with the news that corner back Damian Burke looks set to be fit for the Connacht championship clash against Sligo on Sunday fortnight.
Burke was forced to limp off with an ankle injury after 65 minutes of the National League final loss to Kerry last Sunday week, amid fears he would miss the clash with Sligo at Pearse Stadium on May 21st.
But the Corofin man has made a good recovery, and while he did not play in last Friday night's challenge against Westmeath, selector Francis Roche is confident he will be available for Galway's opening defence of their Connacht title.
"Thankfully, the injury is not as bad as it seemed at the time. He still has a bit to go but it should all work out before the Sligo match," said Roche.
Burke's availability will be welcomed given experienced back Richie Fahey has been ruled out for the season after rupturing a cruciate knee ligament.
