Karl Burke completed a rare double in Carlisle's two major Flat races when Hibernate, carrying the colours of Nigel Shields, lifted the UCB Films Cumberland Plate under a tremendous ride from apprentice Neil Callan yesterday. The owner and trainer had lifted Wednesday's Carlisle Bell with Pas de Memoires, and just to put the icing on the cake they were also on the mark with Night City at Hamilton on Wednesday night, and Selking in the opening race yesterday. But that is not all as Shields also owns the David Barron-trained Over To You who made Hibernate dig very deep to beat him a short head after a thrilling battle through the last quarter mile.

Andrew Reid sent out his first winner on the course with his first runner when Colonel North won the Rayophone Handicap in the hands of Dean McKeown.

Fred Watson got off the mark for the season when Raased well ridden by Alyson Deniel took the Red Mills Irish Horse Feeds Lady Amatuer Riders' Handicap.

Willie Supple brought Tyme To Win with a good run to snatch the Moorpark Preston Classified Stakes out of the fire but trainer Jimmy FitzGerald was on duty on the Derby sales.
