TWO GOALS from former Drogheda striker John Ryan put a virtual reserve Bohemians side into the semi finals of the National League Cup at Dalymount Park last night.
Bohemians, resting seven of their starting 11 from Friday night's defeat of St Patrick's Athletic, had the ideal start with a goal after just five minutes. Brian Mooney played the ball in from the right to Ryan and his well struck low drive from 20 yards took a fortunate deflection off Drogheda defender, Colm Tresson, to loop over the stranded Jody Byrne and into the net.
David Fairclough, another former Drogheda player whom Turlough O'Connor signed over the weekend, might have increased Bohemians lead eight minutes later but headed narrowly wide of the far post from Mooney's perfectly delivered free kick.
Bohemians' dominance did pay further dividend on 27 minutes when Ryan got his second goal, a simple back post tap in, after Mooney had sent Warren Parkes scampering away down the right and he picked out the in rushing Ryan with a firm low cross.
Parkes might have added a third before the interval but his clever chip was just too high to trouble Byrne.
The second half deteriorated into a poor spectacle as Bohemians were cruising and Drogheda had little capable of troubling them.
