Blackrock Hurling Club in Cork have received the single biggest grant under the Sports Capital Programme. Minister for Sport Jim McDaid yesterday announced grants worth £26 million under the programme to almost 600 local community-based projects throughout the country.
This is, by far, the largest allocation by the Government for sports and recreational projects. The type of projects being funded under these allocations include multi-purpose sports halls, community halls, soccer pitches, tennis courts, hockey pitches and dressing-rooms.
This year in excess of 1,600 applications were received.

£280,000: Stella Maris Football Club; St Mochta's Football Club; Oblate Sports, Leisure and Training facility.
£250,000: Sarsfields GAA Club, Newbridge.
£240,000: Loreto Bray, Community Sports Project.
£200,000: Bishopstown Hurling and Football Club; Kildare County Council; St Oliver Plunkett & Eoghan Ruadh GAA Club; St Vincent's Football & Camogie; Darndale Belcamp Community Leisure Complex.
£180,000: South Dublin Urban Initiative, Quarryvale.
£170,000: Tullamore Harriers Club.
£160,000: North Dublin Schoolboys and Girls League; Ozanan House Community Resource Ltd.
£150,000: Carrick-on-Shannon Golf Club; Lacken Sports and Recreation Association; Cappamore Development Association; Moorefield GAA Club; Mervue United Football Club; Lucan Sports Association; Manorcunningham Development Association; Four Masters GAA Club, Donegal Town.
£130,000: Navan O'Mahony's GAA Club.
£120,000: Kilcullen Community Centre; South Dublin Urban Initiative, Jobstown; St Columcilles Football Club.
£125,000: St Mary's GAA Club, Leixlip; Douglas GAA Club; Baltinglass GAA Club.
