All season, Tolka Rovers have comfortably led the chase for the women's ESB superleague but are now in the unexpected position of having to win their last two games to secure their first ever title, writes Ian O'Riordan. On Sunday, the first half of that challenge will be against bottom-placed Crusaders.
It will take another major drop in form for Tolka to loose here (Crusaders have recorded just one win all season), but with defending champions Avonmore Snowcream Wildcats now level on 30 points the league outcome appears certain to come down to next weekend's climax.
The Wildcats play their final two games next weekend against Meteors and then Killester. Should both sides remain level after that, then the title will go to Tolka since they beat the Wildcats in three out of their four meetings. In the men's Superleague, title winners Neptune have a double-header weekend in Dublin against UCD Marian and St Vincent's and they won't want to dent their impressive win-loss record of 21-2 against either team. Gabe Jackson from Star of the Sea has been named the league player of the month for February.
