Non-league side Rockmount had their League Cup run came to an end in St Mel's Park yesterday when goals by Conor Frawley and Stephen Mullen gave Athlone Town victory.

Both sides played most of the game with 10 men following the dismissal after 35 minutes of Athlone's Alan Kelly and Rockmount's Pat O'Brien. Only the woodwork denied Athlone a half-time lead after Athlone's new signing Tony Izzi hit the post but Rockmount also had a goal disallowed in the first half. In the second half Athlone began to seize the initiative and their reward came after 59 minutes. A shot by Gary Devine was stopped by Rockmount goalkeeper Cassidy but he failed to hold the ball and Conor Frawley put Athlone ahead.

Athlone clinched victory in the 92nd minute when Eamon Donoghue put Stephen Mullen in and his low shot beat Cassidy.
