ENGLAND FULLBACK Delon Armitage set his sights on delivering silverware to London Irish after signing a new three-year deal with the club over the weekend.

Armitage extended his Exiles contract until 2012 with younger brother Steffon, the England flanker, signing on until the summer of 2013.

London Irish were beaten in last year’s Guinness Premiership final but Toby Booth’s men are firmly in the trophy hunt once again, lying second in the league and top of their Heineken Cup group.

“Signing for London Irish again was not a difficult decision for me,” said Armitage, who joined the club’s academy in 2002.

“I have been with the club as its success has grown and the future looks exciting – I want to be here to help lift the silverware we rightly deserve.”

London Irish are top of the Heineken Cup pool and reinforced their Premiership title credentials on Sunday by inflicting a first league defeat of the season on table-topping Saracens.

Booth said: “They both figured in what was a big scalp for us in terms of the league table. They are two of the most talented players in rugby at the moment, and outstanding at both Test and club level.”

Armitage returned to action just before Christmas after three months out with a shoulder injury and he will be a key member of England’s Six Nations side. Steffon Armitage broke into the England set-up last season and believes London Irish is the best place for him to secure a permanent place in Martin Johnson’s plans.

“Since joining in 2006 my game has gone from strength to strength and I’ve been capped for England. I have to hand much of that down to the quality of coaching at Irish,” said the flanker. “There is no other club that I want to be at right now, things can only get better and I’m here to stay.”
