ATHLONE TOWN football club and the FAI National League are continuing their tetchy relationship with gusto. This week the club released a press statement pointing out the fact that the FAI National League were too quick off the mark in announcing a deduction of one point from the club for not having their financial obligations in order.
That the FAI Appeals Board restored the point and found that the FAI National League appeared not to have acted in accordance with its own rules in making the decision clearly found favour in Athlone.
The club are now seeking an apology for what they believe was a hasty judgement and state: " . . .the FAI National League, who were so quick to issue statements to the media in relation to the deduction of the point, have made no apology to Athlone Town or to its officers for the damage done by that incorrect decision."
Regarding the FAI National League apparently acting outside its own rules, Athlone Town ask: "Who now is answerable for that?"
