Alhaarth, the leading European two-year-old of 1995, has been retired to stud. The son of Unfuwain will take up duties at the Derrinstown Stud and goes there the winner of eight of his 17 races.
He amassed a total of £373,475 in win and place money, earning £33,670 for his win in Saturday's Group Two Prix Dollar at Longchamp. Owned by Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum and trained in his first two seasons by Dick Hern, Alhaarth was undefeated in five starts as a two-year-old including a resounding victory in the Group One Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket.
"Alhaarth was a very, very good two-year-old who didn't find his best at three," Hern said yesterday. "He was brilliant at two. He was so precocious, head and shoulders above his contemporaries."
Alhaarth left Hern's stable after winning at Longhchamp on Arc day and joined Saeed bin Suroor under the Godolphin banner. He landed the Group Two International Stakes at the Curragh in June as well as his victory on Saturday.
"He was a very well developed horse and is bound to prove popular with commercial Irish breeders. He is still a very good looking horse who was hard to fault. His conformation was just about perfect," Hern added.
