Madam, – It is hard to understand the link that Patrick O’Byrne (November 24th) tries to draw between the Greens being in government and the decision to offer free parking for shoppers in Dublin.
The decision was made by Dublin City Council, which – lest we need reminding – no longer has any Green representation since this year’s local elections.
This is the same council that decided to suspend the Dublin bus gate, on the basis of spurious claims by some of Dublin’s city centre retailers.
Mr O’Byrne is right to call for more to be done to promote public transport in Dublin. Unfortunately, the Fine Gael and Labour majority on the council seems to be determined to do the opposite. – Yours, etc,
