Madam, - I was infuriated to hear Garrett FitzGerald on Morning Ireland (Nov 2nd), saying that he would like to see a cost benefit analysis being done on the western rail corridor before he could possibly give an opinion either for or against same.
It is indeed fortunate that we mere mortals do not have to apply the same criterion to ourselves, or we would be horrified to discover that it would have been more economically beneficial if we had not been born in the first instance.
Of course, I have no doubt that the good doctor himself would prove to be indispensable, which is hardly surprising as he is indisputably exceptional, but, hang on a minute, aren't we all?
Sometimes, but not always, a little vision is required. We need some in the west. - Yours, etc,
LIAM POWER, Bangor Erris, Co Mayo.
