Madam, – Aedan O’Connell wishes (May 25th) that Irish people knew how bad it is to be governed by President Obama. We know the following: 1. President Obama reformed health care by requiring insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions and to give health care cover to all children. 2. He introduced a stimulus package which most experts agree saved the country from depression. 3. His first piece of legislation in January 2009 was to introduce equal pay for women. 4. He appointed two women to the Supreme Court. 5. Jobs in the private sector have increased. 6. He signed the Helping Families Save Their Homes Act and the Fraud Enforcement and Recovery Act which speaks for itself. 7. He captured and killed Osama Bin Laden. I could go on and on, but as a woman, a mother and a grandmother I would rather live in Obama’s USA than the America of George Bush.
– Yours, etc,
Madam, – During his speech at College Green President Obama referred to his Irish ancestor as “a young shoe maker named Falmouth Kearney, my great, great, great grandfather, my grandfather’s grandfather . . .” Is it not the case that his grandfather’s grandfather would in fact be his great, great, grandfather?
With this early slip-up of the Obama re-election campaign we now have something else to call our very own. May the ensuing glow nurture us.
– Yours, etc,
