Sir, - Ulick O'Connor's account of his expulsion half-a-century ago from the Literary & Historical Society of UCD (interview with Vincent Browne, September 8th) is factually incorrect.
For persistent rude and disruptive behaviour his membership was suspended, and eventually he was prohibited from attending.
Neither the president of the college, Dr Michael Tierney, nor anybody else called in the police. As any first-year law student would know, the Garda would have no jurisdiction in a civil matter, such as the proceedings of a student debating society. - Yours, etc.,
Richie Ryan, (Vice-president of L & H), Dublin 14.
