TREES FOR THE MILLENNIUM

Sir, - I am writing to update you on the status of tree-planting projects in Ireland

Sir, - I am writing to update you on the status of tree-planting projects in Ireland. Since our response to Mr Ray Monahan (February 11th), who was commenting on the apparent lack of tree-planting projects for the Millennium, Conservation Volunteers Ireland in partnership with Bord Gais is proud to announce the Millennium Urban Forest Campaign.

Launched on March 13th by our patron, President Mary Robinson this campaign aims to plant 50,000 trees in the greater Dublin area as both a celebration of the Millennium and the environment. The locations vary widely from public parks to school grounds derelict sites to housing estates.

It is hoped that this initiative will spread to other urban centres over the next few years. We will as usual, be relying totally on volunteer support, so if anyone is interested in taking part they should contact us at the address below. - Yours, etc.,

Conservation Volunteers
