Sir, - The board of management of the Abbey Christian Brothers Secondary School in Tipperary is planning to commemorate the Erasmus Smith Grammar School which functioned on the site of the present school from 1680 until 1922. Many leading members of the Church of Ireland episcopate and community attended the grammar school.

This project might have been unthinkable 20 years ago, but the board feels that such gestures are important in an era of bridge-building and reconciliation. President McAleese has graciously accepted an invitation to officially unveil the memorial on February 24th.

We also plan to hold a public lecture and an exhibition of memorabilia associated with Tipperary Grammar School that evening and we would be grateful if any of your readers had any information, old photographs or documents that might be lent to us. Relatives of those who attended the school are also welcome to make contact at 06252299. - Yours, etc., John Heffernan,

Secretary, Board of Management, The Abbey School, Tipperary.
