'Throwing stones' at Sinn Féin

Sir, – Vincent Browne (Opinion Analysis, January 2nd) suggests Enda Kenny should “desist from stone-throwing” at Sinn Féin regarding the party’s paramilitary past on the basis “not that any of his present associates were ever themselves involved in murder or criminality, but rather that they must have known what associates of theirs were up to at the time”.

I was inclined to take issue with Mr Browne’s column but, by his logic, I am precluded from doing so – not that I ever proffered an ill-conceived argument, nor did associates of mine, but they must have known that associates of theirs had done so in the past. – Yours, etc,
