The Quinns and a 'bitter' dispute

Sir, – With due respect to Mr Justice Adrian Hardiman’s dissenting judgment (Front page, October 25th), I doubt Irish taxpayers would share his concern for the manner in which “extraordinary bitterness” has been displayed by both sides in the Quinn case.

Dare I say it, what matters for the majority of people is that the court should have the full cooperation of the Quinn family in respect of the debt that family owes to the IBRC and, by extension, to the Irish people.

Not only have the Quinn family failed to co-operate with the State-owned IBRC, they have sought to encourage local support for their campaign of non-cooperation. Whatever about the extraordinary bitterness during the court procedures, the Quinns bear full responsibility for their own misfortune. – Yours, etc,
