Sir, - It was with some concern that I read today on the front page of The Irish Times (October 23rd) that Prof Mary McAleese is defending her claim to present herself as a "bridge builder".
As Prof McAleese should be well aware, a verbal defence on its own carries very little weight, as actions often speak louder than words! Any right-thinking jury will look for evidence that this is in fact the case. Where is the evidence?
While one welcomes conversions, no matter how late in life, this is one that would be better tested before it could be trusted. - Yours, etc.,
