Sir, - David Trimble would have us believe that there is no problem with the current badge of the RUC, since its three symbols, the crown, the harp and the shamrock, fairly represent both traditions. Mr Trimble appears to see no significance in the relative position of these symbols, in particular that of the crown over the harp. Presumably, therefore, a compromise that would not cause him offence might be a harp over a crown choking in a shamrock undergrowth? - Yours, etc.,
