Sir, – My letter published here on July 2nd did not actually invite the discussion on Stalin, of whose diabolical persecution of nations I need not be reminded.
I merely noted, without being nostalgic, the discrepancy between Paddy Agnew’s account of Poland and my own experience of the country from the present day as well as from the communist past.
I also take this opportunity to point out another popular error, the belief that the communist rule should be equated to Stalinist destructive terror.
