Madam, - Alec Johnson (September 18th) thinks Cornelia Sexton (September 16th) might be taking Oliver James's analysis of President Bush's psychology a bit too personally.

He says: "Many of my fellow Americans seem to have a hard time distinguishing between themselves and the current administration. But virtually all of the Irish people I know have no difficulty making a distinction between Bush. . .and the American people."

As an American resident in Ireland myself, I have a similar feeling about my adopted home: lovely people, the Irish - shame about the country, though. - Yours, etc.,
