Madam, - The great philologist James Murray, the main editor of the Oxford English Dictionary, based the entries therein on usage. I would imagine therefore that a current entry for "manageable" might be: (Adjective) Capable of being accomplished successfully but with uncertain means.

Could Mr Lenihan and others in the establishment please desist from using "manageable" as if it constitutes a strategy. It isn't, no more than anger is a strategy, as the Minister is fond of reminding us.
