Sir, - Why shouldn't LUAS go underground? It would be more expensive, but I for one am now wholly convinced by Garret FitzGerald's arguments. One of the main benefits is that a link to Connolly Station and therefore the DART and other suburban routes would be facilitated - either by having a designated station underneath Connolly, or by (moving?) walkway to a station under O'Connell

Street. As part of this plan Irish Rail could re-open the loop line connecting

Connolly and Heuston Stations to passenger traffic. This could be especially useful for commuters who could be deposited in the centre of Dublin. They would also have a connection into the DART, LUAS and other suburban trains and

Connolly Station could be made into a public transport centre, with possibly an underground bus park for Dublin Bus and local Bus Eireann services. -
