Sir, - Suggestions for a Dublin Transport System:
Discard plans for a LUAS network.
Link the airport to the DART and provide a rail link from Tallaght into the city centre area - if possible to Connolly Station.
Increase the number of buses considerably. The present underused bus corridors should be improved and extended.
Use both canals as limits for buses serving the outer suburbs, north and south. Provide a shuttle service between canals by means of single decker (pre-paid ticket) buses.
Integrate all suburban rail stations into the bus network.
A long term solution may include the necessary provision of an underground rail system, especially between the canals. This idea should be examined over a period of years and a decision arrived at, if and when the expansion of the suburbs reaches a planned outer limit.-Yours, etc.,
