The Croke Park Affair

Sir, - The GAA and the Taoiseach have insulted every taxpayer in the country over the Croke Park issue

Sir, - The GAA and the Taoiseach have insulted every taxpayer in the country over the Croke Park issue. The money offered to the FAI to drop Eircom Park pales into insignificance beside the offer to the GAA. As a lifelong soccer fan, I think the FAI was conned into abandoning its own stadium for the mess of pottage that is Abbotstown. As a taxpayer I think it's a disgrace that the Government should even have considered giving £60 million - or is it £130 million? - to the GAA, with no strings attached.

The health service is crying out for money and it is shameful that such largesse was offered to Croke Park without any quid pro quo. - Yours, etc.,

Liam Byrne, St Brigid's Villas, Navan.
