A chara, – The Rev Canon Marie Rowley-Brooke (December 10th) does a remarkable job, turning the Nativity of Our Lord on its head and presenting it as a pro-abortion argument. Herod himself would not have thought of it. The mind boggles, presenting abortion as a lesser form of hospitality. Christian scriptures are very clear, there is no room for abortion. The unborn child is very much a human and very much part of God’s plan. The unborn John the Baptist leapt for joy in his mother’s womb.

The newly converted Paul of Tarsus wrote in Galatians 1.15 “even before I was born, God chose me and called me”. The earlier Hebrew scriptures are just as eloquent. God speaking through the Prophet Jeremiah said “before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I consecrated you”. In Psalm 139.13 the psalmist sings out “You formed my inmost being, you knit me in my mother’s womb”.

Hospitality is indeed a major biblical value, and likewise is the right to be born, there is no opposition. – Is mise,
