Sir, - As an American guest in your country for the past three years, I want to express my sincere appreciation to the people of Ireland for the services held last Friday around the country.
I was in the crowd outside the Pro-Cathedral in Dublin. It was a most moving experience. At the end of the service, a lady outside the church began singing the Star Spangled Banner.
Many in the crowd (presumably Americans) joined in, and I can tell you that as I started to sing I choked up. It is quite a thrill to hear your national anthem in another country. My thanks to all of you. - Yours, etc.,
