Sir, – Every time your correspondents mention the Iona Institute, they use the tag “the conservative think tank”. Labels such as these are both irritating and judgmental. They bring to mind the “peace-loving people of the Soviet Union” tag much loved by Radio Moscow during the dark days of the Cold War.
I have attended quite a number of Iona’s public meetings and have found them to be wide open to new ideas and to change. In fact, more than one of the lecturers have been convinced atheists! Iona declares itself to be “pro-religion” and “pro-family”. Surely the message of Jesus, properly heard, could not possibly be labelled “conservative”? – Yours, etc,
