Sir, – While Noel Wardick (August 19th) is quite correct in thinking that the EU response to the current economic crisis represents a dangerous dilution of Irish sovereignty, I’m wondering where he’s been since 1973.
Ireland stands in the same relationship to the EU today as it did to the British empire 100 years ago; we may be free at the individual level, but as a nation, we’re a province once again. What did anybody suppose “ever closer union” actually meant? – Yours, etc,
