A chara, – The Road Safety Authority is urging drivers to deal with driver fatigue by taking a break, drinking two cups of coffee, taking a 15-minute nap and then a brisk walk – where?

The motorway between Galway and Dublin is a fine addition to the country’s infrastructure; the round trip is approximately 420km with two tolls. There is nowhere on the motorway to do as the RSA advises – or even to buy petrol. There are a small number of unlit lay-bys with no facilities, certainly not safe for anyone driving alone. Drivers have no option but to keep going or pull off the road and drive several miles to the nearest town thus defeating the purpose of building motorways in the first place. Why were appropriate pit-stops not built at the same time as the motorways-after all two toll plazas were built?

Advice to drivers: leave home with a full tank of petrol and a flask of coffee, the rest will have to wait! – Is mise,
