STILL KNOCKING

Sir, - Your readers will recall that early this year there was a correspondence about the forged "Casement" diaries. On May 23rd there was a lecture by John Garton, "J'accuse: Casement's accusers accused". It was held, appropriately enough, at the Roger Casement Irish Centre in North London.

Representatives from the Home Office and from the Public Records Office were invited, but did not appear. A prominent gay activist who regards Casement as a gay hero was also invited, but failed to appear. In fact, the meeting was lin go doras.

From his home in County Leitrim, it was Lord Kilbracken who maintained on your letters page that the infamous diaries were written by Casement. Fortunately, it was thought, his lordship was in London when the lecture was held. Unhappily, he declined the invitation on the grounds that (I quote) "I wouldn't enjoy finding myself in a minority of one." Is trua sin, but the ghost of Roger Casement is still knocking at the door! - Yours, etc.,
