Sir, – Obviously Stephen Donnelly expects Fianna Fáil to lead the next government and has been promised a ministry. I look forward to seeing him make the transition from commentator to government, which demands a different skill set. A chara, – I am shocked and appalled at Stephen Donnelly’s decision to join Fianna Fáil.
It is simply outrageous that the main Opposition party should recruit an articulate, intelligent, capable TD and then nominate him as front-bench spokesperson on an issue of such vital national importance as Brexit. With Fianna Fáil likely to be in power within the next couple of years, Mr Donnelly might end up in the unenviable position of actually being able to influence government policy, instead of competing for headlines with the 20-odd national treasures currently occupying our Opposition Independent benches.
