Sir, - What a cringe-inducing display of military corpulence and general shoddiness at Sunday's "More funerals for Ireland" day.
The "Dad's Army" appearance and the 40-inch waistlines of so many of our young soldiers might be laughable were it not for the serious implications this has for the security of our fragile State. We are fortunate that the post-September 11th worldwide crackdown on terrorism will create the conditions for outside help when necessary - and if the exhibition on Sunday was anything to go by, that could be sooner rather than later. - Yours, etc.,
