Sir, - With the prospect of three stadiums in Dublin, Ireland will remain a country with virtually no modern sporting facilities in the national context. The Government's plans for decentralisation should extend to sporting facilities too. What about modern facilities in Cork, Galway or Limerick? Athletes and fans there have the same needs there as those in Dublin.
From my own experiences of living abroad, a country's standard of sporting facilities is measured on a national scale, not just by the capital city. For example, here in Finland, sporting facilities in Oulu, a city within the Arctic Circle, are on par with those in Helsinki, over 600 kilometers to the south. That's how it should be. - Yours, etc.,
Niall O'Donoghue, Tampere, Finland.
